Stairway to the heart

Stairway to the heart is a one day art event that invites people to reflect on how we are connected to those seeking asylum from persecution and conflict. The Concourse staircase will host more than 1000 small clay human hearts. Each heart was made by one of more than 500 people at Connecting Hearts Project workshops. Five of the 45 workshops were held on the north shore.

Stairway to the heart invites people to walk the staircase, pick up a heart wrapped in cloth, unwrap it and replace it on the stairs before writing their own reflection on the cloth. The cloth reflections will be displayed on the day for others to read.

Stairway to the heart is by artist Penny Ryan, in collaboration with Roseville Uniting Church- Refugee and Asylum Seeker Support Group, Jews for Social Action, Lindfield Killara Catholic Parishes, Artarmon Muslim Community Association, Lane Cove Uniting Church and Lane Cove Community Chaplaincy, Amnesty’s Lane Cove Action Group, Willoughby Uniting Church.
