Art Therapy & Chronic Pain

A partnered workshop series part of the Willoughby Visual Arts Biennial 2019, exploring the theme of ‘resilience and the community’

This workshop series looks at your experience of pain and is an opportunity for you to benefit from creative approaches that add to your self-care and management toolbox. Art therapy is combined with mindfulness and distress tolerance, building insights and skills intended to lower perceptions of and shift attention away from pain. It also provides an environment to share the impact of chronic pain on your life with others experiencing similar challenges.  Drawing, painting and sculpture will be explored throughout the workshop series. It doesn’t matter what art experience you have, as artworks are created for the process and not the product—in a space that fosters participation, sense of connection to others and to the community. Each two hour workshop includes tea/coffee break and will be followed by a light lunch. Some basic materials will be supplied, but a list of materials for attendees to purchase will be given prior to first workshop.
