Please note: Event has been postponed to Sunday 20 October 2024
This orienteering event that starts from Warners Park in Sailors Bay, Northbridge celebrates the rich history of Northbridge and Willoughby Council’s harbour foreshores, and visits much of the Local Government Area’s best parks, reserves, walking trails, historical locations and bush areas. The event is being held to help kick-off the Northbridge Baths Centenary celebrations, so please wander over to the baths after your race for a swim and to join their festivities. This is a 120-minute score course event where you can start on any minute you like between 9am and 10am. This run has the same format as the popular Sydney Summer Series races that are held on Wednesday evenings during daylight savings time, whereby 30 checkpoints (known as “controls”) are situated in the terrain that are worth 10, 20 or 30 points. You get to choose which controls to navigation to within the time limit to gather the most points, however you lose 10 points for every minute you are back late. The course closes at 12:15pm so all competitors must be back to the western end of The Outpost at Warners Park by then. Each competitor receives a colour-printed, A3-sized waterproof map that features four headlands that form part of Sydney's Middle Harbour (being Northbridge, Castlecrag, Willoughby Sugarloaf and Castle Cove). The controls will be placed on sites that are significant, either scenically, historically or culturally. Control descriptions will explain the significance of each control, and these will be printed on the flip-side of the map.
08:30: Registration opens. 08:45: Acknowledgement of Country and event briefing. 09:00–10:00: Start window. You may commence on any minute within this hour. 12:15pm: Course closure. All runners must report to finish by this time.
